					<title>SEH 03: Darning the Dream</title>
					<link>http://sarahellenhughes.co.uk/podcast.cfm?feature=1551438&amp;postid=425408</link>
<description>&amp;nbsp;&apos;Darning the Dream&apos; is the title track from Sarah Ellen Hughes&apos;s first album.

This podcast gives an insight into the reasons behind the choices of tune and lyrics, and Sarah recalls her struggles to write the song while dealing with the death of her mother.

Here follows Sarah&apos;s own words about the album, from the album sleeve - which set the scene for this song.

The dream is about my Mum. I started having nightly dreams about her almost a year after she died &amp;ndash; and although they upset me I was more upset when they stopped being so regular, as I knew that she was fading from my mind. Hence &amp;ldquo;Darning the Dream&amp;rdquo; &amp;ndash; every time a piece of dream came along I would grab a tight hold. The song originated as a version of &amp;ldquo;Darn That Dream&amp;rdquo; from Dexter Gordon&amp;rsquo;s &amp;ldquo;Ballads&amp;rdquo; album. I transcribed his improvisation of the tune, and as it was so wonderfully singable, I added my own lyrics to create my vocalise. &amp;ldquo;Darning the Dream&amp;rdquo; ends with Eddie DeLange&amp;rsquo;s poignant last 8 bars of the original song. Despite the fact the lyrics are so fitting, finishing the song like this was kind of an accident &amp;ndash; I wrote the whole lot then suddenly on &amp;ldquo;a dreamless sleep I&amp;rsquo;ll find&amp;rdquo; I realised that there was no point in trying to write more words. I had made my peace with the dream.
